Carnival Dance

Join RJC Dance for a one hour Carnival Dance workshop – dance, movement and exercise to Soca Music, the sounds of the Caribbean.

Carnival is a kaleidoscope of colour with the splendour of beautiful costumes, unity, celebrating Crop Over (a traditional harvest festival originating on the sugar cane plantations during the enslavement of Black people), a huge street party with mesmerising energy – culture bringing diverse communities together.

Leeds West Indian Carnival is one of the longest running West Indian Carnivals in Europe and has been brightening up the streets and boosting the economy of Chapeltown and Harehills since 1967, taking place on August bank holiday Monday. RJC Dance have participated in the Leeds West Indian Carnival for over 19 years, winning the best troupe award on numerous occasions. It is a cultural exchange enjoyed by all the family and a flagship event in the Leeds in cultural calendar.
