Phoenix Dance Theatre is the UK’s longest standing contemporary dance company outside of London.
Since the Company’s small beginnings in 1981, it has grown to be a key Northern forerunner in contemporary dance and for three and a half decades has performed across the globe educating and inspiring audiences through the medium of dance.
Led by Artistic Director, Sharon Watson (Yorkshire Woman of the Year 2016, Northern Power Women ‘Top 50 Power List’) Phoenix employs a permanent company of professional dancers to showcase an innovative programme by a diverse range of choreographers to audiences across the UK and internationally. The Company has delivered a number of large-scale commissions including original work for The BBC, the Cultural Olympiad and the Tour de Yorkshire.
Phoenix’s dance education programme celebrates the diversity and collaboration for which the Company has become internationally known; delivering high-quality dance provision in schools, colleges, universities and community settings to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds. The Phoenix Youth Academy offers pre-vocational dance training to the dancers of the future at their state of the art studios in Leeds.
